I woke up this morning (slept in til 10:30! yay!), tore off my French "Phrase of the Day" calendar (thanks mom and dad!) to reveal one for Mercredi, Janvier 6. It read "C'est le premier pas qui coûte" (if you'd like to add this phrase to your daily conversation, it is pronounced: seh luh pruh-mee-ay pah kee koot) meaning "the first step is the hardest."
What a true statement. This morning as I was debating getting up, or sleeping the rest of the day away, I felt this melancholy cloud drift over me. I was tempted to shut the blinds to create a "basement" feel to our bedroom and snuggle for a few more hours with little Sophie. I'm realizing how easy it is to seclude yourself when you're in a new situation. To isolate yourself...it's a form of self-protection. But this is no way to live! When I'm feeling this way, I often think to myself about (now I can put Jesus here, as he did put himself out there, was courageous, loving, and adventurous...but I'm going to be a little shallow for a second...)...Julia Child. Man, was she an example of grabbing a new life by the horns! She didn't care about what she looked like, she just went out and lived life! I want a little bit of Julia in me :) Now off to take Sophie for a walk and see what adventures come our way!
