And we're off

Saturday January 2:

What an amazing testimony of God's faithfulness this morning! Sheesh! I wanted to write it down before I forgot the details...

We were so nervous about so many things--overweight bags, sophie, seeing if we could get more leg room, all of the stuff we have to keep track of during the scanning process, the list goes on!

At the front counter we all muttered a "please Lord" prayer and approached a man named Todd. We would later realize that Todd was an angel sent from above and most likely a father himself. Todd was so kind and generous--we were getting ready to wince as we set the bags on the scale (and in my mind I was rehearsing my "I have a bloodclot, feel sorry for me" speech) and all of sudden Todd mentions that there's no need to weigh the bags--that they only have to pass the "Todd test" where and I quote, "when I pick it up and my arm grows longer then I'll put it on the scale." what?! Amazing. ALSO, we encountered a huge surprise regarding the bags--we originally thought the second checked bag per person would be $45 each (which was a steal!), but when Todd checked us in, he informed us that the new policy had been in effect since December 12...we purchased the tickets on Dec 11th which meant all of our bags were free! Seriously? Ya. And it gets better...keep reading.

Next, Nathan mentioned our request regarding more leg room--Todd said he'd look into it but wasn't sure what he could do. He ended up upgrading us to economy plus for free!

AND THEN, we asked to pay the $200 for sophie's ticket and he informed us it would be only $125! Phew.

The flight to Geneva was a bit stressful because Sophie's medication did mellow her out, but she was super anxious regarding being in her cage for so many hours. She scratched and chewed for almost the entire flight with ten or fifteen minutes of napping in between her demon dog phases. I ended up placing her (in her cage) on my lap and talking to her. There were a few Swiss people sitting around me looking at me (and talking about me in French, I'm sure) like I was crazy. I can't wait to know French so I can do a "SNEAK ATTACK I KNOW WHAT YOU WERE SAYING!" move on them. Those suckas.

Monday January 4:

We're all settled in now. Well sort of. We got our bags today (they were in Frankfurt, cause you know, that's on the way...???) so I get to change into clean underwear for the first time in 60 hours. I know, I'm gross.

Since this entry is getting long, here is a list of things we also did today:

-Register ourselves in the Vaud Canton Office (we get legit ID cards now!)
-Registered Sophie (and apparently it's just an honor system--if a policeman comes up to you, you just say "yes she's registered"--psh, the Swiss).
-Learned the bus and train system
-Got passes with ID pictures for the bus and trains (and half price off boats! Evian here we come!)
-Opened up a bank account (We'll get a "Maestro Card"--I thought the whole time he was mispronouncing MasterCard, but apparently all debit cards are Maestro Cards)
-Sophie had her first bus ride into the main square...she did very well, sitting on my lap and staring at people. She farted a few times (she started a new food today, don't judge).
-Nathan bought a nice cashmere scarf. He's ready for work!
-We figured out our cell phone plan (with swisscom) and will purchase iphones for 1 franc!
-AAAAAND I found a doctor (praise the LORD!) for my bloodclot and will see him tomorrow morning!

Phew. Successful day, I'd say. Now I'm going to go shower and make dinner for my sweet handsome husband (are you happy mom?).
